WHAT WE DO

Employment Counseling, Training & Placement

  • Career and job skills materials and videos - kept in the Center for student, teacher and parent use.

  • Student exposure to employment opportunities – field trips, Job Fair, Career Day, etc.

  • Job Skills Workshops – tax preparation, reality store, interviewing, etc.

  • Community Service Projects for students

Summer & Part Time Job Development

  • Summer Career Training Program 

  • The Center provides referrals to:

    • Employment Services

    • SYETP

    • WIA

    • Local businesses 

Comprehensive Student/Family Services

  • The Center helps families in need find resources or provide items necessary for students to come to school and achieve such as clothing, hygiene products, food, etc.

  • We also make an effort to help our students succeed academically through services such as tutoring and providing computers and space for students to do their homework after school until 3:30 p.m.

  • Additionally, our center provides incentive programs to promote high achievement, attendance, and social improvement.

  • The Center also offers a backpack program that sends a back pack home with students on Friday with food for the weekends. 

  • Arts and humanities and school safety programs Prom Dress Program – YSC has approximately 50 prom dresses for student or family use. They also have 30 tuxedo's for guys to burrow if need be. 

  • Clothing Closet – YSC has a clothing closet open to students and families.

  • YSC gives away items donated as we receive them or during planned give-a-ways.

Parental Involvement

We provide a welcoming atmosphere for parents at the Center and the school.Parental Workshops and informational programs – financial aide, Scholarship Night, Job Fair, Freshman Orientation, Open house, etc. Advertise YSC and school events for parental awareness.

What We Offer

  • Haircuts

  • Area for students to shower.

  • Hygiene products: feminine products, shampoo, body wash, tooth paste, deodorant, lotion, facial products, etc.

  • Shoes, clothing, underwear, coats & winter wear.

  • Washer and dryer to wash students clothing in case they get stains during school.

  • School supplies and backpacks.

  • Help with students that are homeless (try to assist finding them shelter).

  • Counseling services on site daily.

  • Food backpack program. (Food to last through the weekend).

  • Walking Club- a program for the school and the community. Time: Mon. - Thurs. from 10-11:30 a.m.

  • Local dentist that comes on site bi-weekly for dental services for the kids.

  • Vision/hearing once a year.

  • Student Council meets once a month

  • Partnered with the other resource center we have a county wide baby shower for our student’s parents and the community.

  • We help transport seniors to the college for Senior College Day.

  • We are partnered with the Harlan Depot to support the Breast Cancer Program.

  • ARH Opioid Summit is held here at the school each year.

  • We offer assistance with the students prom wear, for Military Ball/ Dances, Home Coming, etc.

  • College readiness giveaways during graduation.
