The Harlan County High School Youth Services Center’s mission is to improve student achievement through the removal of non-cognitive barriers to learning. This will be accomplished by promoting the flow of resources and support to families in ways to strengthen their functioning and enhance the growth and development of individual members and the Family Unit.
Believe you can, and you're already half way there.

Freshman Orientation
Harlan County High School, Date to come
Freshman orientation gives up coming students an idea of what will be expected of them in their coming freshman year. It also allows them to tour the school so that it won't be strange to them. During freshman orientation students will have a chance to tour the school and get a schedule of the classes they will be taking freshman year. This gives them the opportunity to see where their classes are located before they begin the school year and join the rush up the upper classmen.

This is an important date for our seniors here at Harlan County High School. They will be walking the stage and receiving their diplomas. This is a new beginning for these student as they continue their lives journeying to different colleges and universities.
During this event we will be giving away school physicals. Student can also see the foot doctor, dentist, and eye doctor. We will also be giving away food and school supplies. We will have games set up to play and will be providing food for that day.
This activity is for juniors that will be seniors. Students work at the hospital, physical therapy, law office - depending on what they plan on going into in college. These students will be working 20 hours a week for six weeks. They will be paid minimum wage. This program gives them wonderful opportunities and experiences they will never forget. It also looks great on a college/ scholarship resume. It will help these students to better decide if the job they choose is for sure what they want to go to college to be.
FUTURE EVENTS
This even has been hosted at the Harlan Center. It consists of different booths set up for the student to learn about the different health fields. Students will have hands on experiences where they will learn to do things, such as, CPR, ultrasounds, and giving IVs. They will also get to see examples of real medical situations.
